GOVERNMENT work will be suspended on January 2, 2019, Malacañang announced on Monday.
This is in addition to Proclamation 555 Series of 2018 issued by the President declaring January 1 (New Year’s Day) and December 30 (Rizal Day) as Regular Holidays and December 31 (New Year’s Eve) as a Special Non-Working Day.
The work suspension was announced by Malacañang through Memorandum Circular 54, “in order to give the employees of the government full opportunity to celebrate such holiday with their families and loved ones.”
The suspension will cover work in government offices throughout the country, including
government-owned or -controlled corporations, government financial institutions, state universities and colleges, local government units and other agencies and instrumentalities.
However, those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness or response to disaster and calamities and the performance and other vital services shall continue with their operations.
The suspension of work on the same date in other branches of government and in independent commissions or bodies, as well as in private companies and offices, is also left to the sound discretion of their respective heads, according to Malacañang.
