JINAN, China—An official of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said about half of the total number of the participants of its knowledge and technology transfer program have already assumed higher roles in the company.
Edwin Natividad, NGCP Internal Audit head, said “half of about 100” have been promoted. The participants include not only engineers but also NGCP managers and executives.
On Monday NGCP sent here 26 engineers and other technical personnel to learn quality and safety, high-voltage direct-current technology, smart substations, protection systems and online monitoring systems.
NGCP technical partner State Grid Corp. of China (SGCC) facilitates the training program at its State Grid Technical College in Jinan. NGCP said allowing its staff to be trained by employees of Communist Chinese state-owned SGCC is part of its “thrust to build the strongest power grid and maintain the best power-utility practice in Southeast Asia”.
This is the third program called “Trailblazers” conducted, with the first held in November 2016 and the second in May.
“To prove the effectivity and success of this program, more than 16 of those who previously attended similar programs have already assumed higher roles in NGCP,” Natividad said.
He added the program is the company’s strategy to further develop its engineers, who will not just be technical experts but also be the change agents and movers in the NGCP organization, as well as in the Philippines’s power sector.
“That is why we gathered 26 individuals, who are not only high performers but also with high potential for growth; to attend this program and prepare them for bigger roles later on in their careers at NGCP,” he said. “Of course, this weeklong program will not be successful without the help of our partners from SGCC.”
