THE good thing about writing for this section is that you’ll never run out of things to write about. There’s always something new and I’m not just talking about new gadgets or hardware, but about developments that would make our digital lives more exciting.
On World Emoji Day (July 17), Apple revealed 70 new emojis, which would include new emoji
hairstyles for redheads and bald people. There’s a curly haired emoji and a man and a woman with
white hair. There’s also a puppy eyes emoji, and a new way to greet someone happy birthday. New animals include a kangaroo, lobster, peacock and parrot. For food, new emojis to watch out for are a cupcake, mooncake and mango.
Also included are male and female superheroes and sports emojis.
The new emojis have been approved by Unicode and will be released later this year.
Meanwhile, Globe has announced that it will give additional 2GB data allocation when subscribers register on GoSURF and GoSAKTO.
These days, everybody who has a smartphone is always streaming something, whether they’re at home or on the go. This announcement from Globe means its subscribers will have more access to content from their favorite streaming sites such as YouTube, HOOQ, Netflix, Disney and Cartoon Network.
Speaking of HOOQ, the video-on-demand streaming service recently started streaming the Nadine Lustre-James Reid hit series On the Wings of Love (OTWOL).
On the Wings of Love was a 2015 romantic comedy about Leah (Lustre) and Clark (Reid), who enter into a marriage of convenience but fall in love with each other. The story isn’t just about romance but family and loyalty. The series ended in 2016 with a live broadcast where Lustre and Reid publicly declared their love for each other.
“At HOOQ, we aim to continuously provide our customers with fresh, innovative and entertaining content like OTWOL,” said Sheila Paul, HOOQ Philippines country manager.
“We are very proud to be able to bring hit shows and movies to those who can’t watch them during regular runs and times. We will also be streaming restored classics and catch-up series for those who want to binge watch,” added Jeffrey Remigio, content and programming head at HOOQ Philippines.
HOOQ invited Jadine fans to its office in Taguig City for a special viewing of several OTWOL episodes. There were pictures of Jadine hanging from the
lights and even a Jadine standee so the guests could pose for photos.
It’s true that Samsung—and Android—users have been neglected, so to speak, when it comes to the availability of mobile accessories. OtterBox, the No. 1 selling smartphone case, announces a full lineup of cases for Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.
OtterBox offers its full lineup for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ with the Pursuit Series, Symmetry Series, Defender Series, Commuter Series and Strada Series Folio cases, as well as Alpha Glass screen guards.
“For years, we have heard our fans ask why OtterBox doesn’t extend the range of styles, colors and designs offered for Galaxy devices,” OtterBox CEO Jim Parke said. “We’re here to say that we have heard you and are expanding our case colors, graphics and series offerings for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.”
The Pursuit Series, the thinnest, toughest OtterBox case, is available for the first time on a Galaxy device. The two-piece case snaps around the device to block out drops, dings, dust and grime.
The Symmetry Series comes in a variety of colors, in graphic or clear styles. It is easy to slip on and off the device, and in and out of pockets with a slim, single-piece form.
The Defender Series guards the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ from scrapes, drops and dings. The tough case is designed with an open screen to suit the curved display and is fully compatible with the Alpha Glass Defender Series.
The slim Commuter Series keeps the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ covered with two layers of slim protection. The thin case slips easily in and out of pockets for on-the-go use.
Cover the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ in 360-degrees of crafted protection with the Strada Series Folio. This slim protective case guards the brilliant display with a genuine leather folio that protects the touchscreen from damage.
The OtterBox offerings are available at OtterBox retail kiosks and select Samsung Experience Stores. Prices start at P2,250.
