DAVAO CITY—The New City Commercial Center (NCCC) Group of Cos. has firmed up its agreement with local farmers here to keep a steady supply of vegetables and other fresh produces from the farms.
The tie-up started last year as a corporate intention to provide livelihood also to farmers and ensure that farmers have an assured market of their product, according to NCCC Supermarket Senior Vice President Tjader P. Regis.
“All in all the Davao City farmers’ fresh produce comprised almost 70 percent of the total supply in vegetables category serving our branches in Mall Buhangin, Main Magsaysay and Centerpoint,” he said.
The shopping mall in uptown Buhangin district was the latest to join the group of companies, when it was opened in late-July.
The company said it would offer discounts of up to 15 percent on August 15 to August 18 on vegetables and other farm products in time for the celebration of the Kadayawan fruit harvest festival and as a way to commemorate the renewed tie-up with farmers.
It said it would hold the Fresh of the Season Sale in all its malls and supermarkets on that date.
“The great Kadayawan Festival of Davao City is nothing but extraordinary,” Regis said. “Every year, Davaoeños gather for an important occasion which traces its roots as a thanksgiving festival for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture and serenity of living.”
The NCCC group said in the statement this year’s celebration of the Kadayawan “is made extra special it marks its 40th year in the retail industry.”
“From a simple textile store in the 1970s, the company has grown to be a household name in Davao and a prime retail destination among Davoeños,” it said.
The 40th year would be mark with “a festive musical gathering.”
