Muntinlupa is all set for its 100th year celebration as an independent municipality that is meant to add cheers to the festive Yuletide season for the local residents.
Through the Muntinlupa Centennial Commission, the city government has lined up activities to commemorate its historical milestone.
Prior to the main event, Muntinlupa’s Coffee Table Book will be launched on December 15 at the City Hall’s Quadrangle in Putatan, according to Public Information Officer Tez Navarro. The book will feature the city’s rich culture and history.
On midnight of the founding anniversary date on December 19, all the nine barangays comprising the city will organize a “Grand Salubong” through a simultaneous conduct of fireworks display.
Barangay Ayala Alabang will hold a battle of the bands in Alabang Town Center. Barangays Putatan, Tunasan, Bayanan, Sucat, Buli and Alabang, on the other hand, will be putting up a variety show for its residents.
On the morning of the same date, Mayor Jaime Fresnedi will spearhead the blessing of Muntinlupa Fire Station and Muntinlupa Command Center in the Resiliency Building in Tunasan.
The grand celebration of Muntinlupa’s 100th founding year will be held at Muntinlupa Sports Complex starting at 3:30 in the afternoon, with Vice President Ma. Leonor G. Robredo as the guest of honor.
Malacañang has declared December 19 as special nonworking holiday in Muntinlupa City through Proclamation 327.
The festivity will continue as the local government—as part of the centennial celebration—is set to host this year’s highly anticipated star-studded Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Parade of Stars on December 23.
Traditionally, the annual stars’ parade is held along Roxas Boulevard in Manila and Pasay City. Fresnedi thanked the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and the MMFF executive committee for approving their invitation to host this year’s festival.
Based on the planned route, the procession of floats of movie-participants will start from Muntinlupa Sports Complex going to Buendia Street and Centennial Avenue.
They will pass the National Road from Barangay Tunasan to Alabang. The parade will also enter the Filinvest City via the Corporate Avenue and Bridgeway.
It will end at Filinvest Event Grounds/Block 30 for a short program. The floats will be transferred to the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
