The children know
where they belong
on your body
As babies
they fit just right
in the cradle of your arms
As toddlers,
even in the dark they find
the crook of your neck
or
the curve of your waist
upon which to lay
an arm, a leg or a weary head
Now 6, my little one
Thinks my back is her surfboard
Her legs readily hug my body
Screaming in delight
mid-flight
on this piggyback ride
Intertwined mother and child
Little arms wrap around me.
While my heart wraps
Around her little finger.
