KAYA Makati and Ceres Negros won their respective matches last Saturday night to inch closer to securing spots in the two-leg semifinals of the Philippines Football League (PFL).
Kaya Makati turned back Global Cebu, 2-0, to remain at second spot at the University of Makati Football Stadium.
Ceres Negros, on the other hand, only needed a 28th minute goal from Bienvenido Marañon to beat Stallion Laguna, 1-0, in its home turf at the Biñan Football Stadium.
Jordan Mintah opened scoring Kaya eight minutes into the match and although it dominated possessions for the rest of the match, only managed a second goal in the 75th minute ccourtesy of Eric Giganto, his fifth in the PFL.
The Makati-based team mved a win away from clinching the second semifinals berth with 44 points after 25 matches, while the Negros booters ran third with 42 points in 19 games.
League leader Meralco Manila is safe in the semifinals with 48 points following a 3-0 forfeiture victory over Ilocos United.
The Ilocos team was sanctioned for its non-compliance to the league’s Franchise Agreement regulation.
Despite losing to Kaya, Global Cebu remained in fourth spot with 37 points and needs to win its remaining games to seal a semifinals seat.
Stallion remained in contention at fifth place with 28 points.
