The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Thursday urged public-utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and conductors to provide better treatment to persons with disabilities (PWDs)
This comes after a passenger complained to LTFRB after having witnessed a conductor ignore two deaf-mute passengers in a bus trip along Buendia on May 20.
According to a certain Welzki Valencia, she herself saw two deaf/mute passengers approach the conductor holding out a sheet of paper with “Where is Taft?” written on it, their PWD IDs and their payment.
The conductor allegedly disregarded their IDs, took the money and later asked both passengers to alight in Pasong Tamo when they were clearly supposed to get off in Taft avenue.
Valencia along with other passengers tried to stop the PWD passengers from alighting the bus, but since they could not hear, they hurriedly got off before their stop.
An angered Valencia was quick to post about the incident on social media. She also shared photos of the bus plate number online, noting that both conductor and driver were heartless for treating PWD passengers as such.
She later wrote to the LTFRB, which immediately issued a show-cause order to the bus operator, driver and conductor.
The bus unit belonged to operator Bovjen Transport Services with plate number TXV 135 taking the Sta Maria, Bulacan to Baclaran route.
