GENERIKA-Ayala regained its winning ways with a morale-boosting straight sets conquest of Iriga City, 25-16, 25-15, 25-21, in the the 2017 Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
Despite missing import Darlene Ramdin who is down with food poisoning, the Life Savers still made a quick work of Iriga City in 74 minutes.
Ramdin played briefly in the second set and finished with one hit. But Croatian import Katarina Pilepic stepped up with a team-high 20 points on 15 kills, three service aces and two blocks.
Setter Penina Snuka, an American-Samoan, dished out 25 excellent sets including four hits for the Life Savers.
Angeli Araneta chipped in 13 points, 12 on attacks, while Shaya Adorador and Chloe Cortez added seven and six hits, respectively, for the winners.
After losing three of its first four game, Generika-Ayala improved to a 2-3 win-loss card and Head Coach Francis Vicente said he is satisfied with the way his wards have responded to his instructions.
“I just motivated them in terms of mindset towards the game because I think that’s very important in a team,” Vicente said. “That was our main problem in the previous games—setting their minds during competition. We need to be relaxed and happy and just enjoy the game.”
Iriga City suffered its second straight loss in its third game with import Tamara Kmezic the only player in double figures with 15 points.
