THE government is planning to build a high-speed railway system that will connect all of Manila’s airport terminals to facilitate better terminal transfer, and greatly improve passenger convenience.
Octavio F. Lina, the officer in charge of the Manila International Airport Authority, said the plan is to build a train system within the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) complex in the next three years.
“The plan is to build a people-mover system to provide connectivity between terminals and car parks through a rail link,” he said.
Rail links are common in many airports around the globe. These rail systems allow passengers to move from one terminal to another. They also help ease road congestion.
“Target implementation is through 2020,” Lina said.
Currently, the four terminals of the Naia are connected by bus services offered by airlines. Other means of the transportation are taxi, carpool services and tricycles.
The proposed infrastructure will have five stations, one for each of the existing terminals, and another for the future Naia 5.
When implemented, Naia 5 will be situated at the Nayong Pilipino Office in Pasay.
