RECOGNIZING the evolution and versatility of sports-utility vehicles (SUV), as well as its complex requirements, Goodyear recently introduced its latest range of SUV tires. These are four different models manufactured for diverse applications to maximize the vehicle’s various capabilities. One was a standard on-road tire suitable for the urban setup, while the others for rugged terrains. None other than Goodyear Philippines Market Director Kenneth Sambajon presented the four new tires.
First was the EfficientGrip Performance SUV with QuietTread Technology designed primarily for premium SUV—utilizes an array of technologies to deliver premium on-road performance. It features a noise dampening advanced tread and carcass designed to deliver a quieter and more comfortable ride. With the FlexContact technology’s shock-absorbing cushion layer compound, it lessens tire vibration to reduce impacts of road imperfections. Also, it promises excellent wet performance through its new polymers with optimized microstructure for increased grip in wet road conditions, along with wider shoulder blocks to increase braking performance.
“While SUV characteristics, such as high ground clearance and ample cabin and storage appeal to almost all owners, most SUVs will never be used for off-roading. The popularity of 4×2 SUVs is proof of that. So for on-road conditions, most SUV owners will need a set of grippy, quiet and comfortable tires. That is precisely what the new Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance SUV provides,” Sambajon said.
When it comes to off-roading, Goodyear offers three models built for the great outdoors. “On the other hand, SUV purists will always still buy SUVs to use in the great outdoors, so it is fitting then that we offer them tire options to match their sense of adventure, and to complement the often dormant, underutilized capabilities of modern SUVs. It is these customers that we take extra pleasure developing tires for, they challenge us to elevate our game, and that is exactly what our engineers have done with the new Goodyear Wrangler series,” Sambajon explained.
One of which was the most versatile all-terrain tire to go off-road at the moment’s notice—the Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar designed for 50 percent off-road and 50 percent on-road application. This tire is reinforced with layers of Dupont Kevlar typically reserved for bulletproof vests. The Durawall technology, on the other hand, prevents cuts in the sidewall. Its open tread pattern is meant for versatile off-road traction in wet, muddy conditions. The superb traction in the rain is provided by a spectral tread compound and biting edges that help grip the road. Pro grade package for heavy-duty on LT sizes includes two layers of Kevlar and 30 percent more steel for enhanced toughness.
Next was the Wrangler Duratrac intended for 70 percent off-road and 30 percent on-road use. Hailed as the workhorse tire for rugged terrain yet still provides a quieter ride on paved roads. With TractiveGroove technology, it features unique tread block, rim protector and offers superior traction in deep mud. Self-cleaning shoulder blocks clear tread debris and prevents dirt, gravel and excessive mud buildup. Moreover, highly angled center tread blocks improve traction and lateral stability while reducing road noise, while the rim protector shields wheels from accidental curb damage.
Last, the Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar for serious off-roaders. This revolutionary off-road tire is built with the rugged toughness of Dupont Kevlar, providing increased sidewall puncture resistance by 35 percent. Its hardworking wraparound tread delivers enhanced sidewall traction in deep mud and rocks. The innovative asymmetric tread design, meantime, provides aggressive off-road traction while maintaining enhanced handling on the road. Furthermore, it is equipped with advanced silica rubber for excellent off-road and wet grip. “Whether you are a doting parent who likes to take your family on the occasional outing, or an adrenaline junkie who loves the freedom and the adventure of pushing a beast of an SUV to its very limit, Goodyear makes a tire perfect for your SUV and your unique lifestyle,” Sambajon concluded.
The EfficientGrip Peformance SUV, Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure, Wrangler Duratec and Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar tires are now available at any Goodyear Autocare outlets. Additionally, the four new tires come with the Goodyear five-year limited warranty and worry-free assurance.
