GLOBE Telecom Inc. President Ernest L. Cu has painted a rosy outlook in the Philippine digital landscape for 2018, even as the country continues to play “catch-up” with its regional peers in terms of adoption in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.
With the robust outlook, Cu said Globe will place high importance on investing in the promotion of digital transformation in the Philippines.
“We are optimistic that the Philippines will be able to catch up with the rest of the region in terms of ICT adoption,” he said.
Digital transformation refers to the process by which a traditional company—a mall for example—adopts digital strategies that shake up the company to its very core, allowing it to be more agile and versatile amid the increasing demands of digital natives and migrants.
“We see Internet services improving steadily due to continuous investments in network infrastructure. As such, leading companies, including SMEs, will be encouraged to ride on the digital bandwagon to make service delivery more efficient and reach more customers,” Cu said.
He said his group will help in the development of the digital landscape in the country. They will be “fostering digital education at the grade school level,” while giving supporting the promotion of a “strong IT curriculum for the Philippines.”
He said Globe will continue to help build strong ecosystems that support applications development, innovation, cloud solutions and artificial intelligence. This is done through partnerships with industry leaders like Ant Financial and global content providers of music, lifestyle, video and eSports.
