FAR Eastern University (FEU) gets to join the fray in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Tamaraws take the court at 3 p.m. against the tough College of Saint Benilde Blazers, who have turned a leaf under new Head Coach TY Tang.
The Tamaraws have a few pieces left from their University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) title squad of two years ago in Ron Dennison, Prince Orizu and Richard Escoto.
FEU also parades newcomers in Jasper Parker, who transferred from Southwestern University, as well as Arvin Tolentino and Hubert Cani, who switched zip codes from the Ateneo side of Katipunan all the way to Morayta.
Also taking on the coaching reins is former Ateneo star Olsen Racela, the older brother of former Coach Nash Racela.
In other Premier Cup matches, San Sebastian (1-1) takes on up-and-coming Emilio Aguinaldo College at 11:15 p.m.
In high school action, FEU-FERN, the reigning UAAP juniors champion, battle University of Santo Tomas at 1:30 a.m., while University of the Philippines Integrated School faces Mapua-Malayan at 11:15 a.m. In the nightcap at 5 p.m.
Philippine Basketball Association Developmental League-bound Flying V Thunder battles Mapua in a nonbearing tune-up match at 5 p.m. The Thunder have joined the tournament as a guest team in preparation for its maiden D-League sojourn in this month’s Foundation Cup.
Premier Cup officials also named Letran’s Rey Nambatac as the Player of the Week. Nambatac averaged 23.0 points in two matches last week.
Joining Nambatac in the Best Five of the Week are De La Salle’s Ben Mbala, Aljun Melecio and Ricci Rivero and Jose Rizal University’s MJ de la Virgen.
