AFTER its Visayas-wide launch, the movement for federalism will be launched in every district in the province of Cebu starting on January 27.
This was announced on Tuesday by Tuburan, Cebu Mayor Democrito Diamante, president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Cebu Chapter.
Diamante is also the LMP national vice president for the Visayas and the president of
Visayas Alliance of Federal Movements Inc.
Diamante said the per-district launch will start in the Sixth District where Cordova Mayor Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho, the president of the Cebu Movement for Federalism, came from.
Diamante is the executive vice president of the National Alliance of Movements for Federalism (NAMFed) formed to generate profound awareness among constituents on the positive impact of federalism in addressing the historical and social injustices manifested in social exclusion, economic dislocation and disenfranchisement, and cultural subjugation.
Diamante also pointed out that there have already been groups introducing federalism but have not been sustained and continued, prompting local chief executives to organize a movement to consolidate all efforts.
The district launch will be supported by national and local movements, as well as by some senators and Cabinet officials, Diamante said.
The Visayas-wide launch held in Cebu City last month was attended by Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman and NAMFed President Danilo Lim who said this is an “exciting” time to be a Filipino because of the present administration’s commitment in improving the quality of life for all Filipinos.
“If federalism is the way to achieve this, our task is to make it possible. Our mission is to provide practical, step-by-step assistance until this becomes a reality for our country and fellow Filipinos,” Lim said.
While many said it could not be done when the call for federalism by various groups dissipated, Lim said, NAMFed is now breaking into a run.
“This is why I enjoin you to heal whatever climate of distrust exists among us and the public that we serve,” Lim said.
