IMUS CITY, Cavite—Around 130 farmers and small business cooperatives are showcasing their various agricultural and farm products in the three-day “Farmers Trade Fair” beginning on Tuesday until on Thursday (October 17 to 19) at the Imus City hall parking areas.
The city government, in cooperation with the Cavite Gardeners Club, farmers and coop associations, stage the trade fair to provide a ready market for the agricultural sector and coops and boost their livelihood and income-generating projects.
Robert Marges, Imus City Agriculturist, said the city government had organized the trade fair and put up stalls at the city-hall grounds where farmers could display and sell their products at much cheaper prices compared to public markets and supermarkets.
Marges said the city’s “Farmers Trade Fair” is a pioneering event that drew more than a hundred farmers and coops from Cavite’s 23 cities and municipalities.
The fair showcases an array of farm products from freshly harvested vegetables, fruits, coffee, plants and flowers, handicrafts and packaged foods like dried fish, dried fruits, poultry and dairy products and preserved food stuffs.
The event also provides the opportunity for farmers and agricultural workers to feature their specialties to promote brands like the Amadeo coffee; Silang’s dried bananas; Ternate’s packed coconut sweets; Rosario’s dried fish and the famous smoked fish or “tinapa”.
General Trias City farmers are also promoting their dairy products like milk from carabao and buffalo, candies and yoghurt and the “kesong puti” (popular white cheese); Imus longganisa; and Bacoor sea products like dried mollusk and dried squid.
The farmer coops also feature their locally produced wine made from the native berry or “bignay” and a variety of vinegars and fruit juices, among others.
