THE Philippines should develop more engineers and technology experts because engineering and technology are going to be the foundations of the fourth industrial revolution, a major executive of an engineering and technology colossus said.
“If you think of the problems of the world today, we need engineers, scientists, mathematicians and technologists,” said Ed Boone, president of Emerson Philippines and Asia Pacific in a press interview on November 20 at the sidelines of the 2018 Emerson Innovation Challenge.
Boone said there is a possibility that Emerson may get an idea for their future projects in their global operations. Just like any other Third World country, he said the Philippines is also experiencing the same issues, such as traffic, pollution, climate change and poverty, among other issues.
By developing their projects, Boone said the students have shown they want to make a difference in society by creating their respective projects. “This means a lot to them because they want to prove that they can contribute for the welfare of the society,” he said.
Through Emerson’s Innovation Challenge, Boone said the students are given the opportunity to develop a career road map by working with a reputable company like Emerson. “We can guarantee a job for them in Emerson.”
