IN an effort to cascade the Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP) 2018-2022 to the regions and solicit commitments among stakeholders to implement it, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), through the Export Marketing Bureau and the Export Development Council (EDC), kicked off a series of stakeholder engagements on July 25 and 26, 2018, in Region 12 for General Santos City and Koronadal City. Next stop was for the National Capital Region and Region 4B on August 15, 2018.
The event was attended by representatives from different government agencies, private sector and business support organizations. The various agencies agreed to align their respective programs to accomplish the PEDP 2018-2022 Strategies, namely: (1) improve the overall climate for export development, (2) exploit existing prospective opportunities from trading engagements and (3) design comprehensive packages of support for selected products and services sectors.
The PEDP 2018-2022 supports the country’s long- term vision: Ambisyon Natin 2040. Based on Memorandum Circular 27, the following agencies are engaged to ensure the efficient, responsive, and well-coordinated strategies of the PEDP: the DTI, Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Health, Department of Finance, Department of Information and Communications Technology and Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Other government agencies involved are the Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Transportation, Department of Tourism, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Science and Technology, Technical and Education Skills Development Authority, Commission on Higher Education, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Department of Foreign Affairs and National Economic and Development Authority.
The agencies shall administer the strategies and develop new programs that will help boost the region’s exports.
The concerned government offices shall work, review, institute reforms and implement all pertinent policies that will integrate the PEDP, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Plan, and the Philippine Development Plan to boost export. The succeeding stakeholder engagements will be held to promote growth in Region 4A on August 31; Region 8 on September 5; Region 10 and Caraga on September 7; Region 11 on September 11; Region 1 and Region 3 on September 19; and Region 6 and Region 7 on September 27.
