AHEAD of its 2019 target, the public works department is set to open today, Thursday, the modernized segment of the Laguna Lake Highway—formerly known as the C-6 road—that will help connect the eastern portions of Metro Manila to certain towns in Rizal.
Public Works Secretary Mark A. Villar said the P1.28-billion 6.94-kilometer, four-lane road in Taguig has been opened to provide alternative road for Edsa and C-5, and will help curb the projected traffic congestion in December due to the Christmas rush.
“We are happy to announce that this toll-free road will be able to cut travel time from Bicutan to Taytay and vice versa from an hour to just 30 minutes or less,” he said.
He added that the road will also sport bicycle lanes, making the Laguna Lake Highway the first national road with dedicated lanes for bikes.
“The improved highway will ensure safety of motorists, bikers, pedestrians, as well as protection of residents from backflow of lakewater,” Villar said.
He added that with its 2-meter wide planting strips, 3-meter-wide protected bike lane, 1.5-meter wide sidewalk, complete with street lights and safety signages components, the Laguna Lake Highway “will provide a faster, safer and more pleasant travel experience not just to motorists but also to bikers and pedestrians.”
