WHEN I started to write my blog, I would have selected entries called “Whole Week.” These would be chosen weeks when I was able to experience either unique but mostly heart-filling moments. These past few weeks have been truly Whole Weeks for me.
It started on September 27, when I attended the KoolFever launch event. Kristine Hermosa and son Vin are the newest ambassadors of the brand’s best-selling fever relief pads.
Following the launch of their commercial, the actress graced this exclusive event and talked about the challenges of caring for children when they’re unwell. Speaking from personal experience, the young mom relayed how KoolFever’s gentle cooling gel sheets help alleviate her worries by providing her kids, especially one-year-old Vin, with quick and effective relief from fever.
“Vin can’t sleep when he has a fever. It’s hard to see him restless and uncomfortable, that’s why I’m grateful for KoolFever. It’s easy to use and it helps bring down his temperature so he can feel better in no time,” said Kristine. “I’ve always trusted these gel pads to help relieve my kids of their fever. It is a must-have for me in my first-aid kit.”
Each pad has a soft, bouncy gel made of 80 percent moisture that absorbs and disperses heat from the body. It’s formulated to sustain the cooling effect for up to four hours, and its texture ensures it stays in place even when your baby moves around while he sleeps. It’s an effective alternative to a sponge bath, which helps provide relief from fever discomfort. Moreover, the gel has no coloring or fragrance, so it’s guaranteed to be gentle on your baby’s sensitive skin.
Made by Kobayashi Pharmaceutical in Japan, KoolFever comes in four variants: Baby, for infants up to 2 years old; Child, for those between two and 12 years old; Adult and ExtraCool for adults.
The following week, October 6, Meagan and I decided to make a day out of our Saturday. We had a late lunch at Din Tai Fung and had nice chat over our favorite Harlan + Holden cheesecake. There were lots to chat about the party Meagan attended the week prior. Thank you, Malou Fores of Mamou, for recommending this to me. Then we were off to catch our movie.
After the movie, Joan, my youngest sister, invited me to one of her old classmates’ photo exhibit ongoing at ASpace Greenbelt in Makati. It’s titled Walkthrough: A Photography Exhibition by Hub Pacheco. The photographer is a Saint Jude Catholic School alumnus, so we’re even more proud of him.
In Walkthrough, Hub not only captures, but shows, the road less traveled by shining a light on the often-ignored alleyways from around the world. “While traveling, we almost always ignore sketchy-looking alleyways and head straight to the big main streets. I want to change that mindset,” Hub says. “Photography gives me license to be curious and I want to show that there are countless stories and details to be discovered and experienced in these alleyways that we just pass by.”
Much of daily life can be gleaned along streets and alleyways, and this series hopes to encourage exploration beyond the typical tourist attractions. This series also explores the evolution of alleyways in urban spaces, from the rough and undeveloped to the sprawling and commercially viable. The alleyway series unknowingly began in 2014, when Hub wandered the streets of Taipei late one night. After noticing the quiet charm of the alleyways of Taipei, he began to search for more of these side streets on his succeeding trips.
Walkthrough showcases a curated selection of 20 distinct alleyways that were photographed from 2014 to the present. The exhibition features various scenes from Vietnam and Japan, to much farther cities in France and Morocco. The series has been featured on London’s The Guardian on October 2016 (both online and in print) when Hub was in Vietnam shooting for the series.
Hub Pacheco is a commercial photographer based in Pasay, and has been shooting professionally for numerous advertising campaigns and local publications since 2010 after working under the tutelage of fashion photographer Mark Nicdao.
