ATENEO de Manila tries to keep its winning streak going, while reigning champion De La Salle eyes payback when they take on separate foes in Season 80 University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) women’s volleyball action today at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
The Lady Eagles, who started out flat with two straight losses, found their groove and will be gunning for their third win in a row against an also bounceback-seeking Adamson University at 2 p.m.
The Lady Spikers, meanwhile, will try to vent their ire on the hapless University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors, which have yet to win in four outings, at 4 p.m.
The Lady Spikers, who aced their first three matches, are licking their wounds from a tough five-set loss to the National University Lady Bulldogs, 24-26, 25-19, 25-22, 17-25, 14-16, last Sunday.
The defending champions squandered a 2-1 set lead and even a 12-8 advantage in the fifth set, allowing the Lady Bulldogs to stay undefeated in four games.
Right after the defeat, they rushed their way back to the Taft campus and trained. They shunned reporters for interview.
Ateneo and Adamson University are currently in a four-way tie from third to sixth places along with University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University with identical 2-2 win-loss cards.
Both squads got contrasting results over the weekend with Ateneo beating UE, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14, and Adamson University sweeping UST, 9-25, 29-31, 19-25.
In men’s play, Ateneo (3-1) guns for its fourth straight win against Adamson University (1-3) at 8 a.m., while De La Salle (1-3) takes on UE (0-4) at 10 a.m.
