Farmworkers got an average daily wage of P233.05 in 2013, according to the latest report released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
In the report, titled “Trends in Agricultural Wage Rates,” the PSA said male farmworkers were paid higher at P236.34 compared to the P226.73 given to female agricultural workers.
“By region, Central Luzon reported the highest daily nominal wage rate at an average rate of P344.50,” the report read.
In Central Luzon, male farmworkers received P347.99 per day, which was P32.86 higher than the wage rate paid to female farm workers at P315.13 per day.
“On the other hand, the lowest average wage rate was registered in Central Visayas at P202.06 per day. This was P203.68 per day for males and P188.87 per day for females,” the report read.
In palay farms, the PSA said workers received the highest nominal wage rate at P259.30 per day in 2013.
“Wage rates per day paid to male and female farm laborers corresponded to P265.36 and P237.03. The wage differential was P28.33,” the report read.
In 2013, PSA said corn farm workers were paid the lowest average nominal wage rate at P208.52 per day.
The rate of male corn farm workers at P213.24 per day was P15.40 more than the wage rate of their female counterparts.
“The biggest wage rate received by male farm workers was reported in Central Luzon at P325.87 per day. It was least in Central Visayas where males were paid P177.82 per day,” the report read.
As for coconut farm laborers, PSA said the nominal wage rate was at P219.22 per day in 2012. Female farm laborers got higher wage rates at P232.44 per day. This was higher by P13.41 from the wage rate paid to male farm laborers at P219.03 per day.
The report “Trends in Agricultural Wage Rates” is an annual publication of the PSA. It presented the results of the 2013 Agricultural Labor Survey (ALS) and wage rates statistics in the agriculture sector covering palay, corn, coconut, and sugarcane farms.
