Congress has appealed to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to reset the period of filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2019 midterm to give more time to its members to wrap up the priority legislation of the administration.
The House of Representative and Senate issued concurrent resolution No. 20 on Monday seeking to reschedule filing of COC from October 1 to 5 to October 11 to 17.
The resolution was adopted by House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and House Majority Leader Rolando G. Andaya Jr.
Both houses of Congress said this aims to give more time to its members, who will be participating in the midterm elections next year, to “fully attend to their legislative duties.”
“The rescheduling of the filing of certificate candidacy will help Congress to finish its work before the start of the election campaign period,” Andaya added.
