THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has a new deputy chairman—former Rizal Vice Gov. Frisco San Juan Jr.
A licensed civil engineer, San Juan graduated from the Mapua Institute of Technology.
MMDA officials said San Juan’s technical skill will be invaluable to the agency and will play a vital part in addressing its various concerns.
San Juan started his corporate career with Ayala Corp. as an assistant engineer in 1974, the year after he passed the licensure examinations administered by the Board of Civil Engineering of the Professional Regulation Commission.
After his stint with Ayala Corp., San Juan held several positions in companies involved in housing and urban development, including Makati Development Corp. (assistant project engineer), Philpost Realty Development Corp. (vice president for infrastructure development, member Board of Directors), and Eastern Construction Co. Inc. (CEO).
San Juan served as Rizal vice governor from 2009 until he “graduated” this year. He is also a member of several known civic and professional organizations, such as the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (Rizal Chapter) and Knights of Rizal (Rizal Provincial Capitol Chapter-chapter commander).
San Juan attended and finished urban development and planning, and management programs offered by the Development Academy of the Philippines and Asian Institute of Management.
He is a holder of a masters degree in business administration from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.
The MMDA sees a more harmonious working relationship with the 17 local chief executives in Metro Manila with San Juan onboard.
