Marqus Blakely returns to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), not with Magnolia (formerly Star), but this time as TNT’s reinforcement in the Governors’ Cup.
KaTropa Team Manager Virgil Villavicencio confirmed their acquisition of Blakely, who they hope could shore the Katropa up from a 2-4 won-lost start in the conference. He replaced Mike Glover and Stacy Davis.
“It has been two years since he played for Star. We expect him to give us the energy and intensity,” Villavicencio said.
Blakely, a native of New Jersey, won titles for San Mig Coffee (forerunner of Star and Magnolia) in 2013 and 2014. He was also named Best Import in 2013 on averages of 24.8 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and 2.6 blocks.
“Blakely is not new in the PBA. He’s a veteran. So I don’t think adjustments will be a problem,” Villavicencio added.
With the league on hold to pave way for the Fiba World Cup Asian Qualifiers, Blakely will see action on September 22 against Rain or Shine in Iloilo.
