A former China government official who is wanted in Beijing for corruption was arrested by operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC).
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the Chinese national as 49-year-old Xie Haojie.
Xie left China and has gone into hiding for almost a year in the Philippines to evade prosecution after the Chinese government launched an all-out campaign against corruption, which cracked down abusive government high-ranking officials and employees.
Xie Haojie was arrested last Sunday in his unit at the Shell Residences Condominium along Sunrise Drive, Pasay City, by elements from the BI Fugitive Search Unit.
Morente said Xie, who is facing corruption and economic crimes, will be immediately deported back to China to face trial.
