IMAGINE a space where many of the clearly identified ethnic groups of this nation are gathered. Imagine tribes and bands looking at themselves and at the “other” in their ethnic finery. Imagine the Ifugao conversing with dancers from Leyte province. Imagine the Badjao dancing in some distant barangay up north, where mountains replace the wide seas as the grand backdrop to a cultural performance.
WHEN I stepped out of the cinema, I was just happy to realize that I was one of those left behind. The film is called Left Behind. It is about that prophecy that one day, God will collect all the good souls and only the sinners will be left behind, The idea is engaging because, from this valley of tears, the idea of being brought to a place where one is not given an idea of happiness, being left behind seems to be a more interesting option.
FREE television has afforded me a ringside view of some kind of a trial. The lawyers will not call it a trial. The senators behind the event say they’re doing it in aid of legislation. The idea is that a body or committee will invite people and, without indicting them at all, ask them questions. These people are being invited to shed light on something that is bothering the nation.
