Internet Transactions Act pushed as online scams thrive in pandemic
THE chairman of the House Committee on Trade and Industry on Sunday called for the immediate passage of the proposed Internet Transactions Act (ITA) to curb the prevalence of online scams.

Wes Gatchalian said the ITA is one of the priority measures cited by President Duterte in his last State of the Nation Address as he urged his colleagues in the House of Representatives to expedite the passage of the bill.Having a law regulating internet transactions would address fraudulent and deceptive practices, noting reports of a college student from Guimaras who bought a laptop via an online app, only to receive three rocks instead.
PHL logs 3,190 newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases
THE Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday logged 3,190 newly-confirmed cases of Covid-19 as of 4 p.m., bringing the total number in the country to 322,497.
Of the 3,190 newly reported cases, 2,709 (85 percent) occurred within the recent 14 days (September 21-October 4, 2020).
The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were National Capital Region with 994 or 37 percent, Region 4A (579 or 21 percent), and Region 3 (305 or 11 percent).
A total of 18,065 recoveries were also reported through the time-based recovery strategy dubbed “Oplan Recovery”. This brings the total number of recoveries to 273,079.
There were 100 deaths, of which 16 occurred in October (16 percent), 57 in September (57 percent), 11 in August (11 percent), 12 in July (12 percent) 3 in June (3 percent) and 1 in May (1 percent).
Twenty-three duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 13 recovered cases and two deaths have been removed.
Moreover, 19 cases previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
“These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” the DOH said.
Fifteen labs were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Data Repository System on October 3.
