The police claimed it has arrested a suspect who allegedly made an attempt on the life of House Majority Floor Leader Rolando G. Andaya Jr. on Monday while he was meeting with local official in his home province of Camarines Sur.
Chief Supt. Arnel Escobal, regional director of the Police Regional Office 5, in a report sent to Camp Crame, said that the alleged “ambush” was prevented after the firearm that was supposed to be used dropped inside the alleged suspect’s worn out pants.
He identified the suspect as Ray John Musa, 26, member of Capitol Complex Security Unit and a resident of Barangay Himaao, Pili, Camarines Sur. He was charged with illegal possession of firearm and attempted murder.
The alleged incident occurred at around 3 p.m. on Monday infront of the Civil Service Commission at Barangay Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur.
According to Escobal, Musa reached out for a handgun tucked under his waist. The bungling would be killer, he added, dropped his gun inside his pants while Andaya, who is the representative of the first district of Camarines Sur, was near him.
“Said person was sighted suspiciously roaming close to Congressman Rolando G. Andaya Jr. and tried to take a firearm from his waist but same fell under his worn pants,” said Escobal in his report.
“Allegedly, PCI [Police Chief Insp.] Samuel A. Alforte [retired], close-in security of Congressman Andaya together with Mayor Roberto M. Matamorosa immediately approached the subject person and recovered from the subject person was a caliber .38 revolver[TM Smith & Wesson/no serial number],” he added.
The regional police director said the gun was loaded with five live ammunitions.
The firearm has been turned over to PO3 Renan Bongalon, a responding policeman and who was on duty at the Commission on Elections in Camarines Sur.
