The RP Blu Girls won their doubleheader games Monday, beating South Korea, 5-3, and powerhouse China, 1-0, in the women’s softball event of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed softbelles have now won three games in a row after blanking Hong Kong, 8-0, in their first game, boosting their chances of making a podium finish in the quadrennial sports meet.
“Our Blu Girls’ three successive wins against Hong Kong, Korea, and powerhouse China is a testament to the talent and dedication of our women’s national softball team. They have what it takes to deliver a podium finish for the Philippines. I wish them luck and assure them of my full support as they continue to show their best in the Asian Games,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) president.
The second day of softball games also saw Japan edging Chinese Taipei, 3-1, China crushing Hong Kong, 10-0, and Chinese Taipei blanking host, Indonesia, 14-0.
The nationals will be up against top-ranked and defending champion Japan today and face another doubleheader game on Wednesday as they play against host Indonesia and 2014 Asian Games first runner-up Chinese Taipei.
