AT least 40 passengers were hurt in a road accident while riding a northbound passenger bus plying Muntinlupa last Sunday night.
A Cher bus with license plate TYW-504 lost control of its brakes, ran the off-ramp flyover, flipped on its side and skidded near the Alabang Exit toll plaza.While the victims sustained minor fracture injuries and abrasions, no casualty has been reported in the incident.
Muntinlupa City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) deployed responders to the area after receiving a call at 6:28 p.m.
Muntinlupa DRRMO, Lifeline and Red Cross responders rushed victims to the Ospital ng Muntinlupa (OsMun), Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Alabang Medical and Medical Center Muntinlupa.
Except for one patient with lacerations being observed in the intensive care unit of the local hospital, most of the victims were already discharged, said Dr. Edwin Dimatatac, director of OsMun.
Meanwhile, the bus driver involved in the vehicular mishap is now in custody of the Highway Patrol Group and detained in Canlubang, Laguna, Muntinlupa Police chief PSSupt Dante Novicio said, adding that the driver will be facing charges, including reckless imprudence resulting to multiple injuries and damage to property. Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi directed the DRRMO to coordinate with bus operators in Muntinlupa for on-site inspections of bus units, ensuring integrity of public-transport vehicles.
