KALIBO, Aklan—Members of the Aklan Provincial Board are uniting for the passage of an ordinance declaring unlawful any acts and conduct of discrimination directed against all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) in the province.
Provincial board member Nemesio Neron who are pushing for the ordinance said already, more than half of the provincial board members have expressed support to the proposed ordinance.
Among them were Provincial Board members Jay Tejada, Esel Flores, lawyer Harry Sucgang, Lilian Tirol, Jose Miguel Miraflores, Immanuel Sodusta and Nelson Sta. Maria.
“I expect more provincial board members to signify their support for the ordinance. More support would mean greater chance for it to be passed into law,” Neron said.
The 23-paged draft of the anti-discrimination ordinance aimed to penalize individuals who discriminate against members of the LGBTIQ in the province and in Boracay Island.
Neron said that, also included in the ordinance were solo parents and those who are celibate.
