THIS week’s article is short and sweet. I remember the many times my kids say, “Thank you, Mom”, with the warmest and tightest hugs, after getting them a Starbucks drink or buying their favorite cookie. I’m grateful when my kids ask, “What time are you coming home, Mom?” and when I say I’m on my way home, I hear a big “Yay!” And when I have a lot on my mind, I’m grateful my daughter knows it’s the best time to give me the tightest heart-to-heart hug and my son cracks his wittiest jokes.
Mother’s Day is coming up this Sunday. I’ve been a mother for 11 years, and I’ve been grateful each day for it. I know that Mother’s Day is a special day where moms are made to feel even more special. But I can’t help but thank my kids, instead.
So, for this coming Mother’s Day, I want to share my gratitude to my children by sharing their thoughtful deeds and a blog I wrote to my kids in 2015.
Dear Meagan and Marcus,
Once again, mom is in the airplane, hurrying back to see you guys. It has been 4 days of endless walking and talking. The other night, Meagan, you were crying and asking me why I needed to travel so much this month. Then I remembered it is Mother’s Day this weekend. It is a day of saying thanks to mom. But I thought it would be a good time to write a thank you note to you guys instead.
Thank you both for always welcoming mom with the warmest surprises. From writing funny notes to forming Jenga blocks that says “Welcome Back, Mom”.
When mom comes home from work, thanks for trying to prepare a healthy dinner for mom, or making mom your latest smoothies when you can. Thank you for always looking out for mom’s health and forcing mom to do the treadmill or to swim with you guys. 🙂
Thank you for helping each other in schoolwork. Even if both of you argue a lot, thanks for finding things to do together—from setting up your own concierge to creating events for us to sign up.
Thank you also for helping each other when we travel together. Thanks, Ach, for reading and hugging your brother so he falls asleep more easily, even without Yaya. Thanks for appreciating your aunts, uncles and grandparents to accompany you in events when mom is not able to.
Thank you for sharing mom’s passions and simple joys…collecting die-cast cars, eating bacon waffle at Pancake House, having spa days (only with you, Ach), and most of all, accompanying mom in her lifelong quest to be an artist.
Last but not the least, thank you for understanding that mom’s work helps our family and helps a lot of people around us. Both of you are so cute when you keep yourself busy when mom is in the office or at an event.
Shots and Ach, always remember, loving each other is our family’s most important legacy. Dad and I work very hard each day to show you how much we love you.
