The Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) infrastructure projects will have a direct impact on the deteriorating Metro Manila traffic, with private vehicle users choosing to use public transport (buses, trains) after completion of major projects.
Transport Secretary Jaime J. Bautista said ongoing transport infrastructure projects, such as the Metro Manila Subway, North-South Commuter Railway, LRT 1 Cavite Extension, MRT 7, EDSA Greenways, bike lanes, etc., aim to address worsening traffic in highly urbanized areas.
The transport chief said Metro Manila’s infamous ranking as world’s worst metro traffic area serves as a challenge to the Department.
“The top ranking of Metro Manila in world traffic poses a challenge not just for DOTr but other agencies as well to be creative at finding lasting solutions to metro traffic,” the Secretary said.
“We will fast track road projects while collaborating with appropriate agencies with the help of the private sector,” he added.
