IKEA, a global home furnishing brand, has recalled one of its mirror products, as it has been “unexpectedly falling.”
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Ikano Philippines Inc. or IKEA PH recently notified the Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau (CPAB) of their ongoing product recall of LETTAN mirrors.
In its letter, the Swedish retailer announced a recall for repair action of its LETTAN mirrors due to “breaking wall fittings” with date stamps before and including 2105.
“IKEA urges all customers who own an affected LETTAN mirror to stop using it, and visit IKEA Pasay City for product replacement free of charge,” the Swedish retailer said in a statement.
“Customer safety is the starting point for IKEA. Therefore, we are announcing a recall for repair action on LETTAN mirrors with a date stamp before and including 2105 (YYWW), due to risk of breaking wall fittings.”
The company said it develops its products using a “rigorous” risk assessment and testing program. However, it learned that some of the fittings that attach LETTAN mirrors to the wall have been breaking.
This has in turn led to some mirrors unexpectedly falling. “IKEA apologizes for any inconvenience this recall for repair action may cause.”
Last December 21,2022, Ikea also issued a recall on its ODGER swivel chair in the anthracite color due to fall and injury hazards.
The home furnishing brand had urged customers who own the said chair with date stamps before and including 2221 to stop using it and to contact Ikea for a full refund.
Globally, IKEA said it received 19 incident reports concerning breakage of the chair’s star base, where five cases involved injuries, specifically two from the United States, one from Great Britain, one from China, and one from Russia.
