Strong quake shakes northern Davao

DAVAO CITY – A shallow but strong earthquake shook the northern part of the Davao Region on Wednesday night.

The earthquake was measured at magnitude 6.1 at a shallow depth of 11 kilometers at its epicenter 14 kilometers northeast of New Bataan town of Davao de Oro, formerly Compostela Valley.

It was felt at intensity 5 in the surrounding towns up to the provincial capital of Nabunturan but it was felt at a weak intensity 3 in Davao City, Kidapawan City in North Cotabato, Alabel in Sarangani, Tupi in  South Cotabato and Bislig City in Surigao del Sur

There was no immediate report of damage in Davao City, some 134 kilometers to the southwest of New Bataan.
