Cotabato Spikers, Troopers seek lead share in Spikers’ Turf

COTABATO and Army clash Wednesday in a duel of teams which kicked off their Spikers’ Turf Open Conference campaign in contrasting fashions even as Vanguard likewise shoots for win No. 2 at the Paco Arena in Manila.

The AMC Cotabato Spikers trounced VNS last Friday, drawing big games from national team pool members Jau Umandal and Kim Dayandante to annex a 25-21, 25-16, 25-23 win. But they expect to have their hands full in their 3 p.m. encounter with the Troopers, who fought back from a set down to repulse the Navy Sea Lions in five in last week’s inaugurals of the country’s premier men’s volley league organized by Sports Vision.

The winner will join Imus and Iloilo in the early lead.

Meanwhile, the Vanguard Volley Hitters, led by Razzel Palisoc and Vince Abrot, are also coming off a five-set escape over the defending champion National U Builders last week, and like the Cotabato Spikers, they brace for a fierce showdown with the VNS Griffins in the 5:30 p.m. main dish in pursuit of a second straight win.

Games are telecast live on One Sports, One Sports+, Cignal Play, and SMART Live Stream.
