DAVAO CITY—The improvement in local governance in Panabo City of Davao del Norte has attracted several visits from other local government units (LGU) to conduct benchmarking on various public services and infrastructure.
Last week, the LGU Banaybanay of Davao Oriental visited Panabo City to learn from the latter the good practices in conducting technical skills and livelihood programs to beneficiaries.
Banaybanay was particularly interested in how Panabo City’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) provided “the right and quality” technical vocational education and training (TVET) to individuals, organizations and the communities.
Lysander V. Gran, focal person in Community Skills Training Livelihood and Entrepreneurship Program (CSTEP) briefed the Banaybanay delegation on its 149 trainings conducted so far. Gran represented PESO Manager Cherelle B. Espinosa.
Banaybanay Municipal Agriculturist, Ester M. Solamo, expressed the gratitude of her delegation to Panabo City.
Executive Assistant III Jo-Anne Relampagos Capuyan expressed gratitude also to the Banaybanay delegation for selecting Panabo City for its benchmarking visit.
Other officials from the two LGUs included Councilor Ronald Ang, chairman of the Committee on Labor, Employment and Manpower Development, Acting Regional Director/Provincial Director-Davao Oriental Remegias G. Timonio, Wena C. Tinio of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Labor and Employment Assistant Glory Grace E. Trinidad and Labor and Employment Officer Mr. Keir Jay S. Balingan.
On September 12, the LGU Mati City of Davao Oriental also conducted a benchmark on the city economic enterprise to help Mati City improve its revenue code.
Also earler in August, the city also received two municipal local governments on benchmarking visits, one from Jimenez town, Misamis Occidental which looked into the best practices in establishing and maintaining a sanitary landfill, and the other from Talakag Bukidnon, which wanted to learn on how to adapt green technology in its government buildings.
Jimenez town sent 13 of its department heads to Panabo City on August 4 to be briefed on how the latter maintained its sanitary landfill facility to help Jimenez improve further its own sanitary landfill to suit the standard laid out by the national regulatory bodies.
The Talakag team also wanted to get new ideas in the construction phase of its municipal hall.
Acting City Planning Development Coordinator Felix Senajon told the Talakag team that it must look at the design of the rooftop of their municipal hall building to ensure that solar panels have the space and could be easily installed.
A solar-powered electricity for the municipal hall building would ensure the steady electrical supply.
Also last week, the City Library and City Information Office conducted a seminar on Effective Library Services to two batches of participants from Panabo City.
The first batch was comprised of barangay chairpersons, their councilors and Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons and the barangay secretary. It was held in the morning.
The second batch was comprised by library in-charge of schools in Panabo City.
City Librarian Enrique H. Donayre of Tagum City was its resource person.
The training includes basic practices on book placement and arrangement and codifying books.
