The Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region reported a total of 13 individuals injured, 14 health facilities damaged, 35 individuals and 9 families displaced during the latest 6.4 earthquake that hit Ilocos region on the night of October 25, 2022.
Two health facilities in Ilocos Sur were badly damaged by the earthquake, the isolation intensive care unit of Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC) and the X-Ray machine of San Nicolas Municipal Health Office.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that they are still assessing the cost of damage of all the health facilities in the province. “Yung mga injured naman, they are now being treated and properly managed by our health care workers in various hospitals. So far, there is no reported death from the recent earthquake.”
“We have already established a 24/7 operation of the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and augmented two regional epidemiology and surveillance unit (RESU) officers as emergency officers-on-duty (EODs), and one HEMS staff on on-call-duty”.
Sydiongco added that an emergency composite team is also ready for deployment should further need arise.
She further advised residents to be cautious for the occurrence of aftershocks. “Mag-ingat po tayo at mag-stay na lang sa bahay kung wala namang importanteng lakad. At ugaliing makinig sa mga babala mula sa inyong mga local na pamahalaan upang matiyak ang inyong kaligtasan.”
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the earthquake is at “Intensity V” or “strong” when the earthquake hit Ilocos at on Tuesday night.
