Over 165 schools were totally damaged by typhoon “Karding” with an estimated amount of over P1 billion for structural reconstruction or rehabilitation, an official of the Department of Education (DepEd) said.
“Ang nakikita nating estimated cost for reconstruction or rehabilitation ng 165 schools na ‘to ay P1.17 billion [The estimated cost for reconstruction or rehabilitation of these 165 schools is P1.17 billion],” DepEd spokesperson Michael Tan Poa said in a news briefing.
These schools, with 386 totally damaged classrooms, are located in the Cordillera Administrative Region, National Capital Region, Region 1, Region 2, Region 3, and Region 5.
There were also 561 schools used as evacuation centers.
Currently, there are still 92 schools being used as evacuation centers, DepEd said.
Karding battered the country on Sunday night with heavy to intense rains and strong winds.
