De La Salle University formally opened the St. Matthew Gymnasium on its Laguna campus this September 21. The inauguration was attended by the donor, alumnus Mr. Danilo K. Dimayuga (Accounting ’56), with his family, special guests, and top DLSU administrators.
Named in honor of the saint whom the Dimayuga family has a special devotion to, the gym was inaugurated during St. Matthew’s feast day. The ceremony commenced with a Holy Mass officiated by Fr. Gerry Batad SDB.
In his message, DLSU President Br. Bernard S. Oca FSC expressed his appreciation to the Dimayuga family for their shared commitment to promote the kind of education that is balanced, integrated and holistic. “Today’s inauguration of the St. Matthew’s Gymnasium, built with a generous gift from the Dimayuga family, is a testament to our shared commitment to boost the life and animo of the whole community,” he shared.
Likewise, Mr. Dimayuga highlighted his gratitude and pride for the Lasallian community. “I am proud of my alma mater and even more so knowing the great talent of the faculty you have. I’m happy for the students who will benefit from the work that you do with them.”
To reciprocate the family’s generosity, DLSU has named the international standard basketball court of the gymnasium the Dimayuga Court.
The multi-purpose gym was built on a 3,333 sq.m. lot area and serves as the main structure of the DLSU Integrated School area’s Sports Superblock. It is strategically located across the Bio-Forest development of the campus.
This fully air-conditioned sports facility has 504 retractable bleachers seating capacity and can also house indoor sports events such as volleyball, gymnastics, and martial arts, and other functions such as meetings, conferences, and exhibits.
