Army commanders from the Asia-Pacific region, with Philippines represented by Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. met in Bangladesh to thresh out issues in the region by way of dialogue and cooperation.
Brawner joined 22 other senior military and Army commanders during the 46th Indo-Pacific Armies Management Seminar (IPAMS) wherein he also held discussions with US Army in the Pacific (USARPAC) Commanding General Gen. Charles Flynn.
IPAMS, the largest annual gathering of Army chiefs in the Indo-Pacific region, aims to promote peace and stability in the region through mutual understanding, dialogue and friendship.
“The IPAMS is a similar multi-national platform that can create a sense of friendship and warmth so that peace and stability prevail in the region,” said Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina via video teleconference.
The Indo-Pacific region is currently beset by a host of security issues that include territorial squabbles over portions of the East and South China Seas, with China at the center of these tiffs.
The IPAMS is co-hosted by the Bangladesh Army and the USARPAC.
“We are all here at this seminar because we believe in increased cooperation, increased transparency, and respect for the national sovereignty of other nations,” Flynn stressed in his remarks.
The US and the Philippines are set to hold bigger bilateral military exercises next year, with the pre-planning of these trainings having been wrapped up this year.
