A total of 79 films were considered this year by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino. Out of this huge number, 14 films made it to the nomination list.
Eric Matti’s On The Job (OTJ): The Missing 8, from Reality Entertainment and ZXY Films, garnered 12 nominations even as it missed out on the Best Actress Category.
Except for Carlo Francisco Manatad, all the directors nominated this year belong to the same generation that articulated the first wave of independent cinema (outside the sporadic indies of the earlier decades).
For Best Actress, only Charo Santos (Kun Maupay Man It Panahon) can be considered a veteran. John Arcilla, for the record, has three nominations: two for Best Supporting Actor (Big Night!, A Hard Day) and one for Best Actor (OTJ). Shogen, a Japanese actor, is nominated for leading performance for the film Gensan Punch.
Herewith are the nominees for this year’s Gawad Urian.
