FREDDIE SANTOS’S Gomezian showed why he was sent off as the top choice by winning the P1.5-million Philippine Racing Commission (Philracom) 3YO Sprint Sunday at the San Lazaro Business and Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite.
Starting the race dead last in the short 1,000-meter race, jockey Oneal Cortez and his mount remained composed as Eazacky and Club Kensai tried to outmuscle each other up front.
But the last 600 meters became a totally different story as Gomezian made his move and galloped into contention.
Veteran trainer Danilo “Dabe” de la Cruz later said that he wasn’t that concerned with the start because it has become Gomezian’s norm.
“He races that way, he takes his own sweet time before stepping on the gas,” de la Cruz said.
The Sakima out of Hot Yoga progeny bred by the Esguerra Farms stopped the clock at 59.4 seconds with clips of 11′-23-25 giving the connections the top purse of P900,000.
Enigma Uno finished second for P337,500, followed by Eazacky for P187,500 and Roaring Kanyon for P75,000.
