A team from the PHAPCares Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Association of the Philippines, was in the Northern Luzon region recently to donate relief items to those severely affected by the July 27 earthquake in Abra.
As part of its Quick Disaster Response Initiative, the PHAPCares team donated sleeping mats, blankets, mosquito nets, alcohol, and chocolate drink packs to the Diocese of Bangued.
“Apart from our efforts to make a difference in the lives of Filipinos through various medicine access initiatives, PHAPCares has also been at the forefront in helping alleviate the suffering of our kababayans caused by natural disasters. Our aim is to reduce the impact of crisis in the affected communities by partnering with various members and non-members of the organization,” shared by PHAPCares President Lotis Ramin who is also President of AstraZeneca Philippines.
HIV lecture
After the conduct of the relief operation in Abra, the PHAPCares team proceeded to Vigan, Ilocos Sur where they carried out a lecture on HIV for the elementary students in Barangay Pantay Daya, Vigan with PHAPCares volunteers spearheaded by Dr. Benito Arca. The team also conducted debriefing sessions for elementary pupils aged six to 10 years old by drawing what they liked or loved most.
“We are very thankful to our partners for joining us in this endeavor. We are combining our expertise and resources to support the government and the people in Northern Luzon whose health may continue to be at risk at this time,” PHAPCares Executive Director Dr. Maria Rosarita Siasoco said.
PHAPCares expressed appreciation for its members specifically Bayer, Boehringer Ingelheim, Johnson & Johnson, Novo Nordisk, PHILUSA, and Takeda as well as Aboitiz Foundation for supporting their most recent activities in Northern Luzon.
The public may also now support the activities of PHAPCares by collecting Shopee vouchers amounting anywhere from P20 to P1,000.
“When we go to the field, we see that there is always a greater need by the people and the communities. With the Shopee vouchers, we are opening the opportunity for anyone who eagerly want to help the people but could not go out of their homes,” said PHAPCares Operations Manager Dennis Tuazon.
