The Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, Inc., (CLFI), registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a non-stock, non-profit corporation, has been a staunch supporter of various social responsibility efforts since its inception in December 2000.
Over the years, the corporate social responsibility arm of the micro-financial service provider leader Cebuana Lhuillier, has diversified its services and scope guided by its mission of alleviating the lives of the marginalized and unserved sector within communities.
At the time when strict quarantine protocols were imposed, CLFI initiated the Tulong Sa Pagbangon (TSP) campaign in response to the pandemic to provide assistance to communities that were confronted by numerous challenges. Since then, TSP has also been the donation drive mounted by the Foundation to extend support to the most vulnerable sectors in times of calamities and natural disasters.
CLFI’s pandemic response
During the early stages of the pandemic, CLFI donated rapid test kits to 30 organizations, national government agencies, public hospitals, LGU, and other non-profit organizations, paving the way for community members in far-flung areas to also be tested.
Funds for this initiative were raised through the Bayanihan efforts of Cebuana Lhuillier employees, private citizens, and other organizations that believe in the goals of the campaign. Through this group effort, the foundation raised several millions in pesos which was used to support the campaign’s activities for COVID-19 response.
CLFI also purchased doses of vaccines as part of GoNegoyo’s private sector alliance’s donation to the national government and local community requirements across the country, including vaccine doses for its own employees.
Cebuana Lhuillier also allotted test kits for its employees, prioritizing its branch personnel who are considered the company’s frontliners.
“Cebuana Lhuillier’s commitment to serving Filipinos will always be our priority. It doesn’t stop from our service as a micro-financial institution but our commitment also reflects on our legacy of giving back to our kababayans, most especially during crises and times like this. We will always be steadfast in helping those who are in need through CLFI Tulong sa Pagbangon,” Cebuana Lhuillier President and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier said.
Continuous relief operation drive for Typhoon Odette victims
CLFI’s TSP also urgently sent help to the victims of 2021 Typhoon Odette, which ravaged islands in Visayas and Mindanao through disaster relief donations and assistance.
Almost a month after the incident, CLFI was able to raise over a million pesos for typhoon victims across the communities of Negros, Palawan, Siargao, and many more.
Internal donation efforts reached over a hundred thousand pesos that were donated to the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) to provide relief goods for Siargao locals. Cebuana Lhuillier President and CEO himself also donated half a million pesos to fund grocery packs for the residents of Negros Oriental, El Nido, and Siargao that covered 1,000 families in the said provinces. Furthermore, Cebuana Lhuillier also donated more than half of its year-end event budget to accommodate help for its employees in the affected provinces.
