GROUP A leaders University of the Philippines (UP) and National University (NU) dispute the leadership in the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup Sunday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
For the Fighting Maroons, a win won’t only be their sixth straight victory but would assure them of a spot in the playoffs.
But coach Goldwin Monteverde isn’t fooled by these early returns as his main focus is on further developing the chemistry of the reigning University Athletic Association of the Philippines champions.
“The main focus is how they play together, how to achieve team chemistry,” Monteverde said. Bulldogs coach Jeff Napa, on the other hand, is just happy to lay down the team’s foundation as he molds this young crew to a defensive unit.
“The boys are really raring to bounce back and work harder on defense,” Napa said.
The Fighting Maroons clash with the Bulldogs at 3 p.m.
Group B action will see De La Salle (2-0) facing Lyceum of the Philippines University (3-0) at 3 p.m.
Adamson University (3-1) faces hapless Mapua (0-3) at 9 a.m, rejuvenated University of the East (2-3) aims to stretch its win streak to three when it battles College of Saint Benilde (2-2) at 11 a.m. and Letran (1-0) and Far Eastern University (2-2) collide at the 5 p.m.
