VANESSA SARNO, as expected, swept the junior women 71 kgs category to bring home three gold medals as the Philippines reigned supreme in the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships that wound up over the weekend at the Uzbekistan Sports Complex in Tashkent.
Sarno, 17, lifted 100 kgs in snatch, 130 kgs in clean and jerk for a total lift of 230 kgs to win all three gold medals in her class.
Indonesia’s Anggi Restu could only lift 92 kgs in snatch, 120 kgs in clean and jerk for a 212-kg total for the silver medals. South Korea’s Kim Hye-Min settled for three bronzes with 93 kgs, snatch, 118 kgs and 211 kgs effort.
Her three gold medals raised the country’s haul in the championships to 15 gold medals, two silvers and three bronzes.
Rose Jean Ramos (youth women 45 kgs), Rosalinda Faustino (youth women’s 49 kgs) and Rosegie Ramos (junior women’s 49 kgs) also bagged three gold medals while Angeline Colonia (youth women 40 kgs) captured two gold medals for the Philippines.
Colonia, Rose Jean and Rosegie Ramos also captured silver and bronze medals, along with Prince Keil delos Santos, who had two bronzes in youth men 49 kgs division.
