BENGUET—The Department of Education (DepEd) inaugurated the newly renovated and modernized National Educators’ Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) facility in Baguio City’s Teachers’ Camp on June 9.
According to the department, the structure stands proof of its commitment to continuously invest in teachers’ professional development for quality education.
“Winning the education’s battle for equality will take many years of work for us in the education sector; but ultimately, our teachers will be at the frontlines of this fight,” Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said. “As we work toward our goal of improving quality through Sulong EduKalidad, we recognize the urgent need to upskill and reskill our teachers so that they will be equipped to meet the changing standards, landscapes, and context of basic education.”
As part of the broader NEAP transformation reforms anchored on the Teachers’ Upskilling pillar of the Sulong EduKalidad program of Briones’ tenure, the modernized NEAP facility will be turned over to the next administration, along with professional development programs for teachers.
Transformed from the old facility, the modernized NEAP building features conference rooms equipped with fast Internet connection, a cafeteria, a library, and interactive rooms to serve teachers and school leaders who participate in in-service professional-development programs of the department.
In a recorded message, President Duterte commended the agency on its unwavering commitment to serve and uphold the quality of basic education in the country through its series of programs and projects that prioritize the upskilling and welfare of teachers.
“This project is a testament to your commitment to ensure the continued development toward teachers, school leaders, and education allies,” the Chief Executive stated. “I commend you for remaining steadfast in strengthening your capacity as a vital training and accrediting agency that contributes to teacher development.”
Education undersecretaries Nepomuceno Malaluan, Annalyn Sevilla, Wilfredo Cabral, Diosdado San Antonio, DepEd Management Committee members, NEAP Director John Arnold Siena, Regional Directors, personnel, former NEAP directors, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, and Representative Mark Go’s daughter Charis were in attendance.
