AN exposition on health and fitness takes place starting on Wednesday at the Mehan Garden in a lead-off to the Asics Rock ‘n’ Roll running series firing off Sunday at Rizal Park.
Close to 5,000 runners gear up for the first staging of the world’s largest running series in Southeast Asia and in Asia after the pandemic in a race that will cut across Manila’s most iconic locales and neighborhoods, including the National Museum, the Walled City of Intramuros, Manila Cathedral, Manila City Hall and the Kartilya ng Katipunan.
But before they can take to city streets, they’ll need to head to the expo for the bib number and race kits collection and where the event’s sponsors also get the chance to interact with their potential customers and clients in a casual atmosphere.
The claiming of the bib number and race kits will start at 11 a.m. to 7 a.m. today till Friday and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
As part of the organizing The Ironman Group and Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series’ commitment to guarantee the safe conduct of the event, precautionary measures have been put in place—from the collection of kits to pre-event registration.
As mandated by the host city, only participants with Covid-19 vaccination cards will be allowed to join while those unvaccinated will be required to present their 48-hour antigen results.
Physical distancing will be observed at all event areas.
Backed by Asics as title sponsor, Gatorade as official hydration partner and Alaska, Lightwater, Regent and Sante, the four-category run on Sunday mixes running and endurance with partying and a concert that will have participants treated to music throughout the route enhanced with themed water stations and a musical bash at the finish that will run through midnight.
The 10K and 5K races will be flagged off at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., respectively, while the 21K and 42K events will start at 5 p.m., both at Rizal Park.
Celebrities and running buffs Troy Montero and Kim Atienza will also grace the blue-ribbon event, held as part of the city’s 450th founding anniversary with the Philippine Star, One Sports, Cignal and Sportograf.com as media partners, with the former vying in the full marathon and the latter joining the 10K cast.
