Save the seas in style with Alpina’s limited series collection of Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatic watches.
With almost 140 years of Swiss watchmaking experience and love for the great outdoors, Alpina designed a range of six diving watches that help reduce plastic pollution in the ocean.
In celebration of World Ocean Day, the watch collection will be on sale at 15% off in select boutiques until June 19, 2022. Complementing their environmental mission, each timepiece will come with a reusable water flask while supplies last.
At the top of the eco-responsible wave
Everything about the collection reflects its mission to help save the deep blue. The line and its name were inspired by the encounter and collaboration between Alpina and the watch journalist Bernard Werk in the Netherlands years ago. Personally involved in the preservation of the oceans, he co-created the concept and the name “GYRE” with fellow journalist Jorrit Niels, in reference to the giant circular ocean currents – and the reuse of “ghost” fishing nets from the Indian Ocean.
With eco-design in mind, the watch case is made up of 70% plastic debris from ghost fishing nets collected in the Indian Ocean (and of 30% glass fibre, thus forming an ultra-resistant and lightweight whole).
As for the strap, Alpina has developed an eco-responsible NATO-type made from recycled plastic bottles. A second strap is supplied with the men’s model, this time made from “apple leather”, one of the first “vegetable leathers” used in the watch industry.
The exercise does not stop there, as each version is delivered in a new-generation giftbox, also made entirely of recycled plastic. It contains a single guarantee and certificate of authenticity sheet printed on FSC Recycled paper. The instructions for use have been dematerialized, further reducing the weight of the case and the use of paper and ink. It can be accessed via a QR code printed on the lining of the box, which is also made of recycled plastic bottles (rPET).
Oceanic inspirations
The Alpina Seastrong Diver Gyre Automatic range has six variations, including four men’s (44mm) and two ladies’ (36 mm) models. They share four dial finishes evoking the sea: in shades of blue, turquoise, dyed mother of pearl, and black. Luminescent hands traverse the dial with the iconic Alpinatriangle acting as the 12 o’clock hour marker. Completing the look are their respective two-tone NATO-type woven straps.
Each model is powered by the AL-525 automatic movement, offering 38 hours of power reserve as you explore the deep blue. An eco-designed black composite case houses three hands and the date, while presenting a unidirectional bezel that recalls the nautical pedigree of the Seastrong collection. Each piece is certified water-resistant up to 300m.
The limited series collection only has 1883 pieces worldwide, recalling Alpina’s founding year. The men’s black dial model (AL-525LBN4VG6) is even more exclusive with only 288 pieces produced.
